A letter
Piano recital by Russian pianist
Dear Lana,
I have just discovered your website and think that it is wonderful. I’ve read the interview with Victor Sobchac and had a thought to tell you about my future event.
I am a professional concert pianist and will have my Wigmore Hall debut 1st of July. It is a very important date for me as the Wigmore Hall is a Mecca of chamber music in this country and it might open a door for me in the new country. I was very lucky to be accepted to play there without knowing anyone and now have to ‘promote’ the concert pretty much by myself.
I am 30, originally from Moscow, had been living for 11 years in Belgium before the big move to the UK 2 years with my English husband; I have a 14 months’ daughter called Anna. Since she was born I try hard to combine mum/house duties with my carrier and it is a very emotional period...
So, for the concert I have chosen music I have a close affinity with: Rachmaninov, Scriabin and Chopin. This programme is very romantic; I want it to be an emotional experience for the audience as well as for myself..
I hope that you‘ll find it interesting for you and for your readers. Please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or my website www.irinalankova.com
Best wishes,
Irina Lankova
P.S. At my last concert in January ( Lightbox, Woking, Surrey) I met 2 Russian women. It was very nice: I finished to play my programme and already done 1 encore when suddenly I hear from the back rows: ‘eshe pozalujsta’ , and I replay in Russian as well: ‘horosho, togda sigrau Rachmaninova raz vi sprosili po russki’. I was so touched! Since than I see these girls regularly going for walks with our children trying to encourage them to speak Russian..
